Dear brothers & sisters:

“Discipleship Uncomplicated”, The 8 Principles of Disciple Making by Dr. Warren Haynes

Principle 8 – Multiply Leaders – Empower Rapid Advance (part 8)

Coach

Once we recruit leaders, we need to coach them to be successful. During coaching, focus on skill development. This is not general “You figure it out” coaching. Rather, this is specific skill-based coaching. We are coaching for specific disciple-making results. Here is a basic outline for coaching another person:

  1. Begin the session with your focus on the person you are mentoring for success. Genuinely care about the other person or don’t do it! Here’s where to start: “Tell me how you are doing” or “Tell me how things are going.” Tone of voice is important.

  2. Coach the heart: “Tell me what are you learning about loving God and loving people” or “Have you faced any challenges lately?” or “Have you seen any good examples?”

  3. Coach to develop each of the skills covered in Discipleship Uncomplicated. Do not quit until you have coached your mentees to successfully integrate these skills into everyday life.

  4. Coach to reach new people by saying, “Tell me about someone you have recently added to your Reach List.”

  5. Coach to develop new leaders by saying, “Tell me about someone you would like to see on your Lead List or leadership bench.”
