Who’s on your bench? Years ago I attended a national Christian leaders meeting in Chicago, Illinois. The venue was first-class. The music was inspirational. The hospitality of the host church was exceptional. I was totally impressed. At the end of the day, there was a special “invitation only” meeting where all the behind-the-scenes insights were shared. During this meeting, I expressed to the person next to me what a wonderful, high-quality experience this day has been.
As I was talking to my new friend, the next speaker had taken the podium and was beginning to share. There was nothing notably impressive about the speaker. I would use the word “ordinary” to describe him. His clothes were a bit disheveled and I had a hard time understanding what he was saying. He was neither dynamic or engaging, and didn’t speak very clearly at all. I was wondering to myself, Who is this guy and why is he on stage? When I asked my friend who the guy was, he said, “That is the pastor who grew this church from nothing to what it is today.”
WOW!
